Is the city in the market for some new trash bags? According to Brick Underground there's a company called Mint-X that produces scented trash bags that are said to ward off rats with a minty smell that inflames their sinuses... and rumor has it the city is in the midst of striking a deal that would bring the EPA-approved bags to a trash can near you.

When asked about the deal, a Mint-X spokesperson declined to comment, but the site notes they did admit to reaching out to the city, and that with recent cuts in the budget which have slashed pest control jobs, the city is looking elsewhere for solutions.

But will it work? A pest expert told the site, “Unfortunately, established urban rat populations do not necessarily respond the same way controlled study rats do, so we will have to see what happens when our rats try to sink their teeth into these bags." The Mint-X folk believe that with other food sources available in the city, rats will leave the trash alone. Which makes us wonder where exactly the ratdemic will go next... your favorite restaurant's kitchen?
