Last night Shanghai scenesters turned out in force for the opening of the crazy new Obama Club, and we are so envious of the joint's so-tacky-it's-sublime insanity that we had to share. This is just what the Meatpacking District club scene needs: decisive, over the top "CHANGE" (or at least international sanctions)—but we'll probably never get it because whenever anyone tries use Obama's name in this town the White House swoops in to spoil the fun.
Designed by interior designers Cagley and Tanner from Las Vegas, the massive circular club resembles a glitzy monument to Obama's rainbow harmony America by way of Elvis, if Shanghaiist's photos and videos and reportage are any indication: "Democratic would be the word to describe the people we saw at this place because everyone was there and we mean everyone. Murse-carrying middle-aged men, chi-chi snobs, break dancers, wide-eyed kebab sellers who looked like they'd just arrived in the city, and a table of decked out ladies who had everyone wondering if they were paid to just sit around and look pretty." Just living the American dream in Shangai! Tons more photos here.
