An Apple employee walks into a bar with the new, yet-to-be released iPhone... and leaves it there. So, what will Apple's next iPhone look like? The Gizmodo folks have a look at the future of the device, which was indeed left in a bar in Redwood City, camouflaged to look like an iPhone 3GS.
They paid $5K for it, took it apart, and have now listed off the new features for all to see (get the full rundown here.) Surprisingly, the new one will be 3 grams heavier than the current models. It will also have a 16% larger battery, a front-facing video chat camera in addition to the regular back one, camera flash, an aluminum border going around the outside, and a smaller screen (with high resolution). It's been speculated that the release date for the new phone will be sometime in June—though what we really want to know is when it will shed AT&T as its exclusive carrier.
The man who lost the phone is a software engineer for Apple, who was celebrating his 27th birthday on the night he left it at the bar. Some higher-ups at the company have since sent Gizmodo a letter, all but confirming that this is a real deal 4th generation iPhone that they've exposed its inner workings of. Presumably it's now on its way back home, but everyone is left to wonder, will the employee who lost it be fired "in the name of Apple's legendary impenetrable security, breached by the power of German beer and one single human error"?
