G Train to Forest Hills Ends Forever Monday

In advance of widespread transit service cuts planned for June, NYC Transit is getting an early start by terminating G train service between Court Square and Forest Hills, effective April 19th. But the end probably won't feel so bitter for many commuters, because the G infrequently putters along that stretch of track anyway.
The G runs between Church Avenue in Brooklyn and all the way to Forest Hills on weeknights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and weekends when there’s no track work—which there usually is. Last year the G only went out to Forest Hills on three weekends, and there's been plenty of work done on the line this year, too. But Second Avenue Sagas notes that the change will still prolong commutes for thousands of New Yorkers, who will now have to transfer to the E at Court Square.
If there's a silver lining, is that the MTA will run three additional evening G trains during the weeknight peak times. But there's also a more annoying lining: those weekend G suspensions which seemed to last forever last winter are coming back! Assemblyman Joe Lentol (D-Brooklyn) tells amNY that the G will be suspended entirely on weekends for a month in the spring and another month in the fall. There will be shuttle buses, which some people actually prefer.
