Má Pêche, a new French-vietnamese restaurant on West 56th Street in the Chambers Hotel, means "mother peach" in Tay Boi, but judging by the color of the lighting, you might assume it means "mother orange." This is the first venture from celebrated chef David Chang (Momofuku) to open above 14th Street, and it officially debuted last week bathed in a rich orange glow. Right now the menu from Executive Chef Tien Ho only includes breakfast and lunch, but there is a limited bar menu from 11:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily.
Dinner service is on the horizon, but for now midtown residents and workers will have to make due with lunch. Má Pêche doesn't take reservations, but they do offer a $10 "midtown lunch" takeout special, available for order online. The space is dominated by a giant, cross-shaped communal table made of unvarnished wood and... not much else. While the menu and prices change daily, smaller dishes typically range in price from $12 to $16 dollars, and larger dishes range from $18 to $48. The Má Pêche Milk Bar also serves a variety of desserts and pastries to go.
Má Pêche // 15 West 56th street // Breakfast (mezzanine) served daily 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Lunch (dining room) served daily 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The bar menu (balcony + mezzanine) is available daily from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; the bar remains open until 12 a.m.
