Last month Lt. Timothy McCarthy, a 28-year NYPD veteran assigned to the Brooklyn North Task Force, was quietly charged with five misdemeanors, including driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. The NYPD didn't any release information about the arrest, but one tabloid caught wind of it this week, and filed a vague report on this latest episode of NYPD Blotto.

The victim, Massimiliano Tribuzio, 24, tells the Daily News McCarthy was "very, very drunk," when he drove into him in Bay Ridge on February 13th. The details of the accident are unclear, but after it happened, Tribuzio says, "I was slamming on his windows, saying, 'Why did you hit me?' The guy just drove off." But the crash must not have been so dramatic, because Tribuzio caught up to McCarthy a block away at Chadwick's, a bar at Third Avenue and 89th Street. Police were summoned, and a source tells the News that a retired female detective "tried to take the heat" for McCarthy by claiming she was driving, to no avail.

According to court papers, McCarthy had "slurred speech, watery eyes and an unsteady gait." But because Tribuzio suffered only minor back injuries, prosecutors didn't seek a warrant to test McCarthy's blood after he refused a Breathalyzer test. He was arrested that night, and neither his lawyer nor the NYPD have yet issued any official statement.
