While traveling to Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral this morning, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly tended to a woman who suffered a fractured skull after being run down by a cyclist. In his second well-publicized rescue this month, the potential 2013 Mayoral candidate hopped out of his unmarked police SUV at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 84th Street and helped 55-year-old Kinuko Hoffman, who was bleeding from the head after being struck by a deliveryman.

"A women was seriously injured, about a block ahead of us, by a bicyclist, and now we believe there's a possible fractured skull," said Kelly, who wrapped a scarf around Hoffman's head to staunch the bleeding, according to WPIX. "She was unconscious and bleeding from the head wound." Officers who were with Kelly called 911, and an ambulance brought Hoffman to Cornell Medical Center, where she is in stable condition. The cyclist—identified as 24-year-old Jose Segarra—was given summonses for improper brakes, not having any reflectors, and not having lights, the Post reports.

The incident caused Kelly—who was the Grand Marshal of today's St. Patrick's Day Parade—to be late for 9 a.m. Mass with Archbishop Timothy Dolan at St. Patrick's Cathedral. Instead, Kelly met the Archbishop on the steps of the Cathedral a few hours later during the parade. "It increases the high admiration I already have for him. Usually, he comes in after the collection anyway," Dolan joked. "Now we know why."
