After sparking the ire of the Democratic Party when he said he was considering running against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, former Tennessee Congressman Harold Ford Jr. says he won't be "bullied or intimidated" by "party bosses," the Times reports. But that didn't stop an influential group from trying to force him out of the race.
In a statement released through his spokesman, Ford called out the Democratic establishment, which has gone into a frenzy since he announced his potential candidacy. "Harold is not going to be bullied or intimidated. It’s good for New York to have a dialogue," his publicist said. "It’s good to have credible candidates exploring this race. So what are they so afraid of?" Alluding to the fact that Sen. Chuck Schumer and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have already started lobbying against him, the publicist added: "Let's be clear, New York needs a Senator who will fight for jobs, fight to improve our economy, fight for small business, and have the independence to stand up and do what’s right for our state, regardless of what the party bosses in Albany or Washington want."
Meanwhile, the group NARAL Pro-Choice New York has been pushing a video it released today showing the potential Democratic candidate stating: "I'm pro-life." According to the Huffington Post, "it'll certainly be an uphill battle in dark blue state New York if groups like NARAL keep releasing videos ... that paint him as a staunch pro-lifer."
