According to CNN, last night at around 5:20 p.m., terminal C at Newark Airport was the scene of a security breach, and went on lockdown "after a man walked through the wrong side of a checkpoint exit." It's unclear who alerted authorities, but the Transportation Security Administration says the man walked from the public to sterile side. Following the incident, authorities reviewed video as they searched for the man — who has still not been located. No flights were allowed to leave from that terminal, and all travelers who had reached the sterile area after going through checkpoints were re-screened.
The NY Times's David Carr had a friend at the airport who sent him this photo (which he posted to his Twitter account), and there's even some upbeat video on YouTube — passengers stuck there joined in on a "Hey Jude" singalong!
All in all, thousands were affected, and the Times reports that Continental (who run a majority of the flights at that terminal) "announced that passengers scheduled to fly into or out of the airport on Sunday and Monday could reschedule trips without penalty." Airport spokesman John Kelly tells the AP that security lines are "moving normally" as of 7 a.m. Monday.
