Here's an interesting sidenote to the upcoming trials of five suspected 9/11 plotters — there could turn out being an awkward family reunion in the Manhattan courthouse between one of the accused terrorists and his ex-wife, who also happens to be charged with "trying to kill American soldiers and FBI agents in Afghanistan," according to the Times.
When suspect Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali and four other accused terrorists are brought to New York City to stand trial in Manhattan's federal court, their cases could overlap with the case against Aafia Siddiqui, who apparently married Ali in 2003 about a month before he was detained. She says he divorced her once in custody.
According to reports by a defense psychologist and a government psychiatrist, Siddiqui "claims that she was unaware of [her husband's] alleged connections to Al Qaeda or any other terrorist organization" and only learned of his Al Qaeda connections when "she saw it on the news." Siddiqui — whose lawyers say prosecutors have no evidence against her other than her relationship with Ali — claims she didn't even know that Ali is the nephew of alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, who will also be tried in the same courthouse. Security will probably be pretty tight, but if she gets a chance to reconvene with her ex, he'll have a lot of explaining to do.
