The woman who sent an innocent man to prison for four years when she made up a story about being raped will face charges for perjury, the Post reports.
A grand jury voted to indict Biurny Peguero Gonzalez, who has confessed that she was attempting to cover for her girlfriends when she testified that she was gang-raped at knifepoint by William McCaffrey and two other men. The indictment will be unsealed at her arraignment hearing today in Manhattan Supreme Court, according to the tabloid.
Court documents reveal that Gonzalez first told the truth to a priest in Union City, New Jersey because "every night she would cry, and she was not at peace with herself." The priest convinced her to alert authorities. McCaffrey — who faced a 20-year prison sentence — has maintained his innocence, recently arguing that DNA evidence proves that bite marks on Gonzalez's arm could not have been made by a man. He is now free on bail and a judge is expected to officially exonerate him on Thursday.
