, celebrated Irish tenor Ronan Tynan lost his regular gig singing "God Bless America" at Yankee Stadium during the formerly forced seventh inning patriotism stretch. The Yankees cut him loose because he got caught making an anti-Semitic remark to a prospective apartment buyer in his building; when the broker told him not to worry because the buyers weren't Red Sox fans, Tynan replied, "I don’t care about that, as long as they are not Jewish." For good measure, he added that some Jewish women who'd seen the apartment were "scary."
Now Tynan is trying to get over his fear of scary Jews, through song; tonight he'll be contritely performing "God Bless America" for the Anti-Defamation League. ADL director Abraham Foxman tells the Daily News Tynan's a "good man" who's made a "sincere apology" and shouldn't have his career ruined because he "slips up on one occasion." Which is pretty magnanimous of Foxman, considering the guy actually posited that Jews are worse neighbors than Red Sox fans. Some things you can't take back.
