With the Yankees about to play in their 40th World Series tomorrow night, the city is excited. Especially the NY Post and NY Daily News, which are going to town with numerous stories... and Shane Victorino gets the "Frilly" treatment on the Post's cover.

One Post story is headlined: "Their fans are second rate & so is their city." The article includes lots of smack-talking, like, "Philly fans are a bunch of whiners and should learn how to dress. They should try reading GQ," and "I briefly lived in Philadelphia and I couldn't wait to get out. Their fans are whiners, the food is lousy and there is nothing to do."

The News' Joanna Molloy was in Philadelphia and reports about Phillies' fans' excitement, "Mass delusion may be a better term for the phenomenon," and hears from them, "The Yankees have never played a juggernaut like this Phillies team," and "The Phillies are supposed to be nervous about Sabathia? The faster he throws, the farther they go. The Phillies are totally going to win the Series. How do I know? I have ESPN. I watch the games."

The Post is also unsparing when discussing the Phillies' mascot, the Phanatic, "The Phanatic's lame shtick consists mostly of stomping on objects and attempting to hex opponents. If he succeeds, it's because opposing players wonder if someone slipped LSD in their Gatorade." A Yankees fan was dismissive, "Mr. Met is even better than that -- and Mr. Met is retarded."

The Phillies arrived in town yesterday on a chartered Amtrak train. At Penn Station, the News reports, "They appeared relaxed and in good spirits, especially Pedro Martinez, who grinned and seemed startled that dozens of fans, cordoned off by rope and police tape, were hanging around Penn Station for them to appear."
