- Yankees 4 Minnesota 1: Carl Pavano tried his best to make Yankees’ fans miserable, but the Yankees got revenge in the end. A-Rod and Posada homered in the seventh to put the Yankees up 2-1 and the bullpen took it from there. Mariano got the final four outs for the save meaning the Yankees won a playoff series for the first time in five years. The ALCS with the Angels begins Friday in the Bronx.
- Giants 44 Raiders 7: This is why football needs a mercy rule. The Giants had a 21-point lead early in the second quarter and Eli Manning didn’t even have to play the entire first half. In fact, the Raiders would probably have been held scoreless if the referees hadn’t blown a call on a clear fumble recovery by the Giants’ defense. The Giants improved to 5-0 for the third time in franchise history, but things will get a lot harder next week when they travel to New Orleans to face the undefeated Saints.
- Rangers 3 Anaheim 0: We will see a lot of battles between New York and Anaheim later this week, so it is nice that the Rangers started things off right. Ales Kotalik broke a 0-0 tie in the third period with a goal off a nifty pass by Michael Del Zotto. Artem Anisimov scored his first NHL goal and Dan Girardi added an empty-netter to clinch the game.
