Mark Sanchez is 3-0 and the first rookie quarterback since the AFL and NFL merged in 1970 to reach that mark. The Jets are flying high despite a brutal schedule and the implementation of a new system. A game at New Orleans against the high-flying Saints offense could be their stiffest test yet.
Sanchez has been solid, yes, but his defense has made the biggest difference this season. The unit didn't allow an offensive touchdown until the Week 3 game against the Titans, and it stuffed a high-powered Houston offense in Week 1 before rattling the Patriots' Tom Brady in Week 2. But Drew Brees and the Saints are a different animal, and the Jets are banged up. Starting cornerback Lito Sheppard and nickelback Donald Strickland are both out. That's not a good sign against Hofstra's own Maques Colston, Pierre Thomas and the rest of the Saints' playmakers.
People have taken notice of the Jets; but if Gang Green wins this game, they'll move up another notch. No one doubts they're capable of beating the best, but a victory could mean they are expected to do just that.
