Tomorrow at noon, a group of Mets fans (yes, another!) is gathering at Shea Stadium "one last time to say farewell to the old girl," according to a fan organizing the outing. The fan adds, "We would like to organize one formal farewell that was never done by the team for the fans. In the Bronx, memorabilia has been carried with dignitaries and schoolchildren from old park to new park, while no such occasion has been held for the Mets fans... There is no cost of course, and the day will include a walking tour around the site one last time, stories, photographs, and much more." [Via NY Sports Dog]

In the meantime, two members of Congress are questioning whether the new stadium should be called Citifield. Newsday reports, "Reps. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) and Ted Poe (R-Texas) sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner requesting he 'dissolve' the contract with the Mets to name their stadium Citi Field." Invoking the outrage that inspired the Taxpayer Field movement, Kucinich said, "It's just totally unacceptable that Citigroup should be able to spend $400 million in naming rights when they're the recipients of a massive federal bailout." Still, the Mets says they are "fully committed to our contract with Citigroup," and Citigroup called the agreement "legally binding."
