This Friday, Apple is releasing the next generation of its extremely popular iPhone and last week, the line for the new 3G iPhone started to form outside the Fifth Avenue store.

Some of those waiting are part of The WhoFarm, which Fortune calls a "publicity-seeking environmental collective" (with baby, momentarily, in tow; here's video). TheWhoFarm folks apparently want to both set a Guinness World Record for waiting and to play up themes like sustainability, affordable housing and more--all while using solar power and drinking NYC tap water. They are also locavores and welcome people bearing NYC apples.

Last year, the iPhone was introduced to a huge frenzy.
