2005_09_metaldetect.jpgStudents at DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx protested the use of metal detectors at their school. And they will not be able to leave school for lunch because there won't be enough time for security to check them. Crime at DeWitt Clinton had risen in recent years, leading to the Department of Education to install the controversial metal detectors during the 2003-2004 school year, which students say delay them from getting into school by up to an hour. Not to mention "dangerous overcrowding" in the cafeteria during lunchtime.

Last year, DeWitt Clinton had 13 major crimes; the average for a city school was 8.3. The school says they will install more metal detectors to speed up the process.
