This weekend's shocking crime was the murder of a 15 year old boy over an iPod. Christopher Rose, who lived in Bushkill, Pennsylvania, had been in the city to visit his mother in Brooklyn, when a large group of teenagers demanded the iPod in the Farragut area of East Flatbush on Saturday afternoon; Rose and two other friends were on their way to the Port Authority, to catch a bus back to Pennsylvania. Rose allegedly resisted giving the iPod to them, and was stabbed. The sad point that the media has emphasized is that Rose lived with his father in Bushkill during the school year and would visit his mother in Brooklyn, because they were afraid the city was too dangerous. While two of the boys in the group were arrested on Sunday, one was released yesterday and the other denied bail.
iPod thefts have been on the rise this past year in the city: From subway pick and steals to muggings.
